Similarly the number of IIMs increased from 6 to 13 and NITs from 20 to 30 ; Central Universities from 24 to 40 , SPAs from 1 to 3, IISERs and IIITs in PPP mode from nil to 5 and 5 respectively Earlier Shri Ashok Thakur worked with Govt of HP in Tourism, Culture, Forest, Industry, Sports, Transport etc He’s also Honorary Professor at Punjab University Chandigarh.

Prof. Damodar Acharya served as the Director of IIT, Kharagpur from 2007 to 2012. The Government nominated Prof Acharya as a Director on the central board of the Reserve Bank of India in October 2012. He received his Ph.D. (1975) from IIT Kharagpur, and B.Sc. (Engineering) degree in Mechanical Engineering (1970) from NIT Rourkela. Professor Acharya has about 32 years of diversified experience: He served as the Vice-Chancellor, Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Rourkela, and also served as the Chairman of the All-India Council of Technical Education.
